Wednesday 29th April 2026

Warm and sunny for a few more days – but some rain at times during the bank holiday weekend. Of course.

Thanks to Joanna for the photograph.

So the general picture sees high pressure in control though with a small low pressure to our south-west – which will drive warmer air north in the short term, but then increase the chance of showers/rain at the weekend.

Today sees long spells of sunshine – some high cloud this afternoon but otherwise very pleasant. Reaching around 18’C – the easterly wind still taking the edge off. Mostly clear skies overnight, down to around 8’C.

Thursday is another glorious day (this will not last!) with sunny skies all day – possibly not even one cloud. The breeze becoming more south-easterly which will help temperatures get to around 21’C, give or take. Clear skies overnight, down to around 8’C.

Friday sees a weak weather front edging east – good spells of sunshine, especially in the morning but some cloud around. Very warm, around 24’C, maybe 25’C. This weak weather front could trigger a couple of scattered heavy showers in the afternoon/evening – around a 20% chance of catching one. Some cloud at first overnight, the chance of some showers remains – tending to be clear skies later. Around 10’C – but very give and take on that.

For Saturday we are still in the warm air mass, but things will be starting to destabilise. Details become uncertain from here – more likely much of the day will see further warm, hazy sunshine with temperatures around 22’C or so – but showers will be possible, more so later in the day. Uncertain on details – but the signs are more general showery rain, likely heavy/very heavy spreads up from the south overnight, though a mild night likely.

By Sunday we have this shallow low pressure system around – the one that was driving the warm air north.

Details uncertain but heavy rain clearing to scattered heavy showers is a reasonable idea of the general theme for Sunday. Perhaps rain clears early and there are only one or two showers – perhaps it doesn’t clear at all and continues all day. We’ll still be in the warm air mass, so 16’C if there is no sunshine all day – close to 20’C or so with a bit of sunshine.

Bank Holiday Monday is pretty uncertain though broadly speaking a fair amount of cloud, some sunny spells, some showers and roughly around 16’C to 18’C would be a reasonable estimate for now. Could be better…but could easily be wetter.

Well, we had a good run.

For the rest of next week, more likely we’ll revert to fairly average conditions, temperatures around normal for the time of year – some cloud, some sun, some showers – a general mixture seems more likely.

I still think that more likely we go into a more showery, perhaps outright unsettled spell for the middle third of May.

Next full forecast will probably be on Monday morning.
