The showery conditions continue for a few more days, and becoming less warm/humid into the weekend. Bank holiday vibes.

So I even had to use an umbrella this morning for the first time in months. The general set-up sees the low pressure to our south-west continue to move north-east across the UK.

Thursday starts cloudy with outbreaks of rain – some heavy/very heavy and maybe thundery rain is possible for a time, though the heaviest will be hit and miss. Brighter skies with some hazy sunshine from around late morning/midday, initially a chance of some thundery downpours but this chance fading as the afternoon goes on. Very warm and humid, reaching around 26’C or so this afternoon. Some cloud at first overnight though skies tending to clear overnight, fairly warm though eventually down to around 15’C – perhaps some mist patches around dawn.

Friday starts reasonably sunny, once any early mist/fog patches clear, though some fair-weather cloud will bubble up. Showers possible from around late morning onwards, not a lot of them around but say a 60% chance of catching one or two, more likely late afternoon – potentially heavy with a rumble of thunder if you do catch one. Still warm and humid, reaching around 24’C and breezy. One or two showers still around for a while in the evening, then skies clearing for a time – then thickening towards dawn. Another fairly warm night though gradually getting down to around 15’C.

Saturday morning will be cloudy with outbreaks of rain, probably quite light and patchy at first but more heavy outbreaks later in the morning and around lunchtime. Brighter skies follow around early afternoon (some uncertainty on timings throughout the day) though also with some heavy showers, perhaps a rumble of thunder. Less warm and less humid, but still around 22’C. Some cloud, some clear spells overnight – the odd bit of showery rain possible, and again fairly warm – no lower than around 16’C.

The next area of low pressure approaches for Sunday.

There is some uncertainty about this next low pressure system and how it develops, and hence details for Sunday. But more likely at least Sunday morning looks fine with sunny spells and quite a bit of cloud. Potentially this lasts into the afternoon but at some point heavy, thundery showers or general heavy showery rain will arrive from the west – perhaps by midday, perhaps not until the evening – or somewhere in between. Roughly around 22’C but will depend on when the heavy showers arrive. Showers or showery rain probable into the evening, drier later in the night – down to around 14’C and feeling a bit fresher.

Bank holiday Monday should be reasonably sunny, though certainly some cloud around at times – especially in the morning. I cannot rule out a shower, but more likely dry. Fresher, around 20’C and breezy, if not outright windy. Reasonably clear skies overnight, down to around 12’C.

A weak weather front probably crosses on Tuesday at some point – bringing cloud and a bit of showery rain – sunshine either side. Roughly around 21’C but depending on the timing of the weather front.

After that, uncertain.

It does look like there will be an attempt at spreading hotter air up from the south, but also there will be low pressure systems developing quite easily to our west – so we may time a couple of quite hot days, but equally it might just be rather mixed – warm/humid but rain/showers and just the odd sunnier day.

High pressure should have more influence after this and particularly in the second half of September – the chance of more very warm/hot weather seems higher than normal for September.

Though my confidence of a drier than normal September is reduced. Sunnier than normal, probably, just. Warmer than normal, almost definitely (but predicting as warmer than normal month is hardly difficult).
