A mixed few days but fairly warm, then next week looks like high pressure takes over – perhaps one final spell of summer, though some uncertainty on cloud amounts.

So the general set-up sees a westerly flow for the next few days, with high pressure to our south, and low pressure currently towards Iceland.

Thursday starts cloudy as a band of showery rain sinks south-east, one or two heavy bursts possible. This will clear around 10am ,give or take, to sunny spells, quite a bit of cloud and a small chance of a shower. Breezy and around 20’C. Reasonably clear skies overnight, down to around 9’C.

Friday starts sunny. It will gradually become hazier during the morning, and cloudier in the afternoon as a weak weather front approaches – some patchy light rain possible later in the afternoon and into the evening. Breezy, if not quite windy at times, and up to around 21’C. Often cloudy overnight, the odd splash of rain possible, breezy and very mild – around 15’C.

Saturday is a mostly cloudy day – some brightness possible at times, mostly in the morning, some patchy rain possible also – more likely later in the day, but even then very hit and miss. Warm, quite windy and somewhat humid, around 22’C. Cloudy for much of the night, some more splashes of rain in the evening and first part of the night – clear skies before dawn. A fairly warm night, until the cloud and bits of rain clear, eventually down to around 13’C.

Sunday sees the return of sunshine – good spells of sunshine all day, some high cloud around, some fair-weather cloud but otherwise very pleasant. It should be around 22’C or so, though perhaps a little lower. Some cloud overnight and quite warm, 16’C.

By Monday high pressure will be over much of the UK, and pulling up much warmer air.

Some uncertainty on cloud amounts for Monday, certainly possible that a good chunk of the day is fairly cloudy, but with at least some sunshine at times. Temperatures will depend on cloud amounts – roughly between 20’C and 24’C.

Again some uncertainty on cloud amounts for Tuesday, a broadly similar forecast for Monday.

Sunshine more likely for Wednesday and Thursday, though far from certain, temperatures roughly in the range of 21’C to 24’C.

The warmth then probably lasts into Friday and Saturday, though more uncertain after that.

So next week could easily be rather disappointingly cloudy but warm, or glorious and summer-like, or some kind of mixture in between. Not impossible we could get into the high 20s, but more likely we stay low/mid 20s.

Suggestions of something more changeable by the end of September, though no signs of anything particularly autumnal yet.

The deluge will arrive, though maybe not until late October and especially November. Everything points to a very wet November right now.
