The mixed weather continues.

So the general set-up sees high pressure in control to our south over much of Europe – some really hot weather in Spain/Portugal right now, but unlike earlier in the summer it cannot quite get this far north due to the active jetstream.

Thursday starts cloudy – there is the wavy weather front along the jetstream which separates the cooler air to the north and the hot air to the south, and this brings us cloud to start the day, maybe the odd spot of light rain. A few sunny breaks though and during the afternoon there will gradually be more in the way of sunshine. Very warm, and humid, reaching around 25’C – breezy too. Mostly clear skies at first overnight though tending to cloud over as the wavy weather front sinks south again. An unusually warm night for September, no lower than around 18’C, maybe 19’C, and quite windy.

Friday starts cloudy, the wavy weather front sinks south during the morning bringing an hour or two of rain, but not much. Brighter skies follow for the rest of the day, though hazy sunshine at best. A bit fresher once the rain clears through, but still warm – around 22’C. Breezy. Mostly clear skies overnight, down to around 11’C.

Saturday sees a ridge of high pressure build and will be a pleasant day. Plenty of sunshine, some fair-weather cloud, some high cloud too – but pleasant and reaching around 22’C. Mostly clear skies overnight, down to around 12’C.

High pressure hangs on for Sunday and we’ll be in a warmer southerly flow. Good spells of sunshine, some cloud around – especially in the afternoon and a 10% chance of a heavy shower. Quite hot, reaching around 27’C, though breezy later. Probably becoming quite cloudy overnight and fairly warm, though uncertain.

By Monday we see quite a notable low pressure system between Scotland and Iceland, pushing away our warmth.

Some uncertainty on details, more likely fairly cloudy, breezy though also quite warm – a bit of sunshine and the odd spot of light rain both possible. Roughly around 23’C.

Either Monday night or into Tuesday, we probably see a spell of heavy rain crossing.

Wednesday probably drier, sunnier but also cooler – around 18’C.

And then I guess mixed for the rest of next week, some sunshine, some showers – roughly around 20’C or so.

There remains a good chance of high pressure building after that to bring a more lengthy spell of settled weather – I’ll go into more details when I do my autumn forecast, which I’ll hopefully do either tomorrow, or more realistically on Saturday morning.
