Our short heatwave over, followed by more normal warmth for the time of year – often but not always sunny, and maybe some showers next week.
Thanks to Ian for the photograph. Other supermarkets are available.
The general picture sees a bit of a disintegration of the previous pattern, with high pressure systems less defined, and some low pressure systems around – notably one to the north of Scandinavia which is pushing yesterday’s heat away.

Thursday starts sunny though with some high cloud around. Cloud tending to thicken somewhat from mid/late morning onwards as a weak weather front crosses from the north-west – still some bright/sunny spells, but also a chance of a light shower or two. Very warm, around 26’C – a bit of a breeze. A fairly cloudy night and hence fairly warm too – down to around 16’C by dawn.
Friday is back to good spells of sunshine all day. A bit of cloud at times possible but mostly sunny. Very warm, around 24’C but feeling fresher and generally more pleasant for most. Mostly clear skies overnight, down to around 11’C.
Saturday sees good spells of sunshine for most of the day – though perhaps a bit more in the way of cloud in the afternoon. Very warm, around 25’C. Mostly clear skies overnight, down to around 12’C.
Sunday sees more sunshine though probably more high cloud around to make it hazy at times – especially later in the day. Temperatures notably higher, so feeling quite hot at around 28’C. A warm and cloudy night likely, down to around 18’C – a small chance of a shower.
By Monday we’ll have a small low pressure system to our west, trundling it’s way east.

Some uncertainty but I think more likely Monday is reasonably sunny, if with high/mid-level cloud making it hazy at times, though I cannot rule out a shower. Probably quite hot and humid by this stage, around 30’C – give or take, and assuming I am right with sunshine amounts. A chance of some showers overnight – uncertain at this stage, and a warm night likely – down to around 18’C.
Tuesday has a greater chance of showers or even some showery rain – but high on uncertainty. Likely also some sunny spells, and at least very warm, perhaps hot – anywhere from 24’C to 30’C possible. Possibly humid – yeah, quite vague but will be tricky to call in detail until a day or two before.
Pretty uncertain from here – I’d suggest a more likely theme for Wednesday/Thursday would be very warm/quite hot, often sunny – but some cloud and a chance of a shower/downpour.
Uncertain for Friday and into next weekend – the chance of a spell of heavy rain is there, but so is the start of the next heatwave, or just more pleasant sunny warm weather. Will take a few more days to know what is more likely.
Generally it seems we are slowly going into a somewhat more changeable pattern – with some weak weather fronts or areas of low pressure with showers on some days, but the main theme still very warm/quite hot, often sunny – with short heatwaves very possible.
Maybe we end up closer to average rainfall for August as a whole, instead of the bone dry conditions of late – but also above-average temperatures seem certain, and above-average sunshine amounts more likely.
September still looks very good from a dry, sunny and warm (maybe hot) perspective. Still no need for me to book a holiday. Though I do need a rest.
Enjoy the more pleasant weather – those of you doing the rain dances may well have some joy next week, though everything rain-related remains “a chance of showers” and not a certainty.
