There’s a chance of a tiny bit of rain this weekend…but mostly the forecast is for it to be quite sunny and quite hot.

High pressure is still in charge but it’s way out west now, the centre closer to Canada than the UK – and this will allow weak weather fronts to cross from the north-west this weekend.

Reasonably sunny to start Thursday but there will be high cloud around making it a bit hazy. Some cloud will bubble up from around late morning, likely more cloud than sun for a time, before becoming sunnier later once more. Very warm, around 26’C. High cloud overnight, down to around 15’C.

Friday sees hazy sunshine for much of the day, just a bit of fair-weather cloud bubbling up too. Quite hot, around 27’C, maybe 28’C. Reasonably clear skies overnight, down to around 14’C.

Saturday sees good spells of sunshine – a bit of cloud around at times but a very pleasant day. Quite hot, around 28’C and becoming quite breezy. The aforementioned weather front arrives in the evening and crosses overnight, bringing cloud and some bits of showery rain – no guarantee of it raining where you live, and minimal amounts if it does. A fairly warm night, around 17’C.

Sunday starts cloudy, or mostly so – perhaps a bit of showery rain. It will brighten up by around midday (give or take) with sunny spells and perhaps a shower or two. Much fresher, around 23’C and breezy too. Mostly clear skies overnight, down to around 11’C.

By Monday, high pressure is pushing back in already, from the south-west.

Monday therefore sees good sunny spells – potential for some cloud to bubble up though uncertain. Warmer, around 25’C or so. Clear skies probable overnight, down to around 14’C – ish.

Tuesday is probably hotter, and probably sunny – assuming so then temperatures in the range of 28’C to 32’C most likely.

Wednesday likely sunny, and probably hotter than Tuesday was. Anywhere from 28’C to 36’C is feasible.

And then it’s too uncertain really. There will be low pressure systems to our west somewhere, probably, which will have driven hotter air for Tuesday/Wednesday – it’s a case then of whether one of them crosses the UK and brings some showery rain/thundery rain – or they hang to our west and keep pumping the heat up from the south.

Broadly speaking I think much of the first 2-3 weeks of August will be hot, sunny and dry – but not every day. More likely outcome, anyway. Of course, we are getting to the time of year where tropical storms/hurricanes can develop and cause an unexpected change in our weather as they interact with the jetstream, but there’s nothing currently in the pipeline and hurricanes normally are less frequent in El Niño years.

So…as you were, summer continues, bar the blip on Saturday night/Sunday morning.
