Quite a mixed bag of weather ahead this week – some rain around on some days, and becoming very warm later in the week.
Thanks to Christel for the photograph.
So the general set-up sees the next area of low pressure arriving, though with a ridge of high pressure to the west of that.

Sunday starts reasonable enough – spells of sunshine/hazy sunshine and some fair-weather cloud. Some showers around from late morning and through lunchtime, potentially heavy – say a 60% chance. Showers then less likely through mid-afternoon, before becoming likelier again by late afternoon and especially into the evening – potentially very heavy with a rumble of thunder. Around 21’C and breezy. Heavy showers continue into the first part of the night – clearer skies later, down to around 13’C.
Bank Holiday Monday will be reasonable enough, probably the better of the 3 days. Plenty of fair-weather cloud around but generally bright with some sunny spells. Some showers dotted around too, say a 70% chance of catching a couple, possibly heavy – more likely early/middle parts of the day. Around 21’C and breezy. Reasonably clear skies overnight, down to around 10’C.
Tuesday starts with a fair amount of sunshine, some bits of cloud. Probably quite a lot of fair-weather cloud bubbles up around lunchtime before becoming sunnier later, and also some high-level cloud building later in the day. Again around 21’C and breezy, maybe a tad more. Clear (ish) skies at first, cloud tending to thicken later in the night – down to around 14’C. Some patchy rain possible by dawn.
Wednesday starts cloudy with bits of showery rain around. Some bright spells possible in the afternoon but still the odd shower around. Still around 21’C or so, and breezy again. A warm and cloudy night likely, around 18’C.
By Thursday the general set-up sees high pressure to our south with heat trying to nudge up to the UK, but low pressure to the north resisting the charms of summer.

Probably quite cloudy at times on Thursday, especially in the morning – some bits and pieces of rain/drizzle possible. Some brightness also possible, especially later in the day. Much warmer, around 25’C though that could surprise to the upside depending on sunshine amounts. Also quite windy. Uncertain overnight, probably cloudy, definitely warm – perhaps some showery rain. No lower than around 19’C.
Lower confidence for Friday but more likely on the cloudy side, perhaps some patchy rain, probably at least a bit of sunshine at times. Likely still very warm, roughly around 25’C. Probably fresher air overnight – down to around 14’C.
The more likely outcome for next weekend sees high pressure building – though it isn’t a done deal yet.
Assuming it does then Saturday would be fine with sunny spells and fair weather cloud, around 23’C. Sunday warmer, say 25’C (maybe more) – but also a chance of showers later in the day.
The week after is uncertain, I’m hedging towards another mixed week though the emphasis more on dry, sunnier weather.
Probably a good chunk of September after this will see high pressure around, so more in the day of sunny and warm/very warm days – perhaps still some hot weather at times.
Enjoy the rest of the bank holiday weekend – I have a trip to the Tracey Emin exhibition booked for later this morning, and a Sunday roast. Finally doing indoor stuff after this glorious, if sometimes too hot summer.
