Sunday 24th May 2026

Konnichiwa from Osaka today, and I don’t have to be so envious of the weather back home as the sun is looking glorious too here in Osaka next few days before I head back. Though maybe record-breakingly hot isn’t quite what you all want?!

Currently reached the really exciting point of doing some washing on holiday so I have 20 minutes to quickly do an update, though again I’ve not really been checking the models anywhere near as much as normal, believe it or not.

I won’t bore you about my holiday but I will say Japan is utterly wonderful, and deserves all the superlatives you might have heard elsewhere.

Anyway, weather. So we start with high pressure in control with hot air coming from Africa.

Sunday sees long spells of hot sunshine all day. Around 31’C. Probably no lower than around 16’C overnight.

Bank Holiday Monday sees long spells of sunshine all day. Hot, verging on very hot at 33’C, maybe 34’C – either of which should make it the hottest day in the month of May ever. Warm overnight, perhaps no lower than 18’C.

Tuesday starts with long spells of sunshine, and it will be hot from the off pretty much. Some cloud bubbling up in the afternoon with a 10% chance of a thundery downpour – they will be very hit and miss but probably develop somewhere over England. Again very hot, around 34’C. Mostly clear skies overnight but fresher air will slowly spread across from the east, down to around 15’C by dawn.

By Wednesday high pressure will be close to the north-west and we’ll have lost the direct heat source with more of an easterly flow.

Generally long spells of sunshine but temperatures more normal at around 24’c or so, still very warm but a breeze too.

Thursday and Friday should remain with long spells of hot sunshine, with temperatures back towards the high 20’s again, say roughly 28’C and warmer nights once more.

The more likely outcome for next weekend would be for it to remain hot and often sunny, though shower chances increase a bit.

Apologies for brevity compared to normal, but battling against shoddy wi-fi. Next full forecast will be when I get back late next week (boooo).

Enjoy the sunshine if you can!
