Sunday 5th July 2026

Mostly hot and sunny. Long it may continue.

Thanks to Andy for the photograph.

The general set-up sees high pressure in control centred to our south-west, though with the flow of air from the Atlantic rather than the continent.

We start Sunday with quite a bit of cloud around – the Atlantic influence – though this will break up during the morning to leave increasing amounts of sunshine, if hazy with high-level cloud building too. Becoming hot, reaching around 29’C. High cloud remains overnight, so a bit warmer, say 15’C.

Monday sees long spells of sunshine all day – some high cloud around, but mostly it will be sunny. Temperatures ticking up to around 31’C. Some high cloud around overnight, down to around 15’C or so.

Tuesday sees long spells of sunshine, with a bit of high cloud around. Hot again, reaching around 30’C, maybe a tad more. Mostly clear skies overnight and a warmer night, down to around 17’C or so.

By Wednesday we start to tap into some warmer upper air, and it will be a bit hotter on the ground too. Long spells of sunshine all day, reaching around 33’C. Clear skies overnight and a fairly warm night, down to around 17’C.

By Thursday, the high pressure is still centred to our south-west but the orientation differs, hence the increased heat.

Long spells of sunshine all day – more likely reaching around 33’C or so, though there is a chance of something hotter, say 35’C. A small chance of a thunderstorm breaking out later in the day, no more than 5% chance as it stands, but maybe worth watching for. Probably some more cloud overnight, and a warm night likely – around 20’C.

A bit of uncertainty for Friday, but more likely we remain hot and sunny, with temperatures roughly around 33’C. Temperatures could be a bit either side of that depending on wind direction, and there is a small chance of thundery showers developing somewhere. Another warm night is likely.

Some uncertainty for next weekend. The more likely outcome at around a 60% chance is for it to remain hot and sunny – though normal UK levels of summer heat, say 28’C to 32’C.

A 20% chance instead of it getting into the very hot category (and sunny) – say 34’C to 37’C.

Or a 20% chance of a thundery low developing, with at least some thundery rain, likely humid and still some heat around with sunshine at times. Temperatures could be anything in this scenario, say 24’C to 35’C – hotter before any thundery rain, plain warm/very warm after.

I still think much of July will be dry, hot and sunny – temperatures and sunshine amounts varying depending on positions of high pressure over time. Probably the odd thundery downpour at times in the second half of the month, but at the moment it looks like they will be the exceptions to the rule.

Summer is here, and could be with us for many weeks to come.

Enjoy! Next forecast should be Thursday morning.
